The return of professionalism to management consulting In my four decades as a professional management consultant, I have seen several shifts, most notably in how businesses approach change and how management itself is improved. When it comes to the workplace, I am an expert in using IT to achieve business goals. We built information systems from the ground up in the '60s and '70s to meet the needs of our customers. Users obviously lacked the imagination to foresee the many ways in which IT might improve the company. Our key contribution was in assisting customers in identifying and prioritizing the most important outcomes their company needed to achieve, and then building an end-to-end human-machine solution to facilitate these outcomes.
